Craft fair in da park pix and new crafty endeavors! [02 Aug 2008|03:52pm]
[ mood | mellow ]
[ music | The Wombats- Let's Dance to Joy Division ]

So I did a Sundae Market a while ago. It was pretty cool. It happened to be on Father's Day, so I think we had a little less ppl come out than would normally. It was free though, so it wasn't a big deal anyway. I got a killer sunburn though! I'm gonna try to do both of them in September. Already signed up. Until then I'm selling some flea market things and possibly crafts too in the park in the North Side by East Commons and AGH on Saturdays. I missed today, but I'm gonna try to do them for the rest of the season. Only $10 for a space and no reservations needed! I'm also probably gonna do this fair/market thing in Greenfield on Sept. 27. I will post here ahead of time!

Pix from Sundae Market )

I'm re-vamping my etsy page. I just got internet at home, so I can update lots more and keep adding my new stuff. I saw today that everything had expired, but I relisted some things to keep something in there at least. I'm planning on listing some other things today, so check it out!

In addition, I'm thinking of creating a facebook profile for ITS like Angela has for her crafty business, Foggy Sonntag. I have a myspace page, but I really don't like myspace that much, and I'd really check facebook more. Plus I could invite all my friends and everyone will see when I add something. So look for that. I just home they don't erase my profile cuz of the name. They've done that for some of my friends' pages.

Kitties Sure Love to Craft! )

Ok, see ya later!

[ music | Neil Diamond- Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon ]

Hi DJ! It's been a long time since I've updated! I took a little break from crafts for a while to do some hard core theatre (aka overlapping shows and super late nights). So, here a little update just to say what's been going on.

I've done some spring cleaning recently and am trying to get all my crafts into one central area. They've been taking over the apartment, and it's hard to work on them when they're scattered about so. So, they're moving towards their permanent home, and watch out then! I have so many ideas I never worked on and supplies I bought but never did anything with. Get ready for a craft explosion from Isn't That Something?!

Althea (Salvaged Expression) and I are participating in the Sundae Market coming up on June 15th in Schenley Plaza in Oakland. It's right by the Cathedral and between the Carnegie Library and the Hillman Library. It should be lots of fun! I Made It! is working with the Sundae Market this time, so lots of great crafters should be present! I can't wait.

Other than that, I plan on doing some flea market/yard sale type things this summer and other shows if they come along, and hopefully I can finish out with IMI's September Sundae Markets. If you hear of a craft show, let me know! Also, I'm really gonna try my hardest to do Handmade Arcade this year. And Tekkoshocon. I was really sad I had to back out of that.

Ok, so here's the poster for Sundae Market. Tell all yr friends!

Hi there!

So I just have two quick announcements. One is that I will be doing the next I Made It! show even though I thought I wasn't. Althea and I decided to share a table and therefore split the costs and have less to worry about making. So I'm pretty much gonna take the stuff I have left over from other sales plus some Valentines items and St. Patty's things too. Plus I have some new pins and magnets to offer. Should be good times. I know it's early for St. Patty's, but I'm getting a jump start. I have some neat things for that, too!

So here's the details on that show:

Hope to see you all there!

Also, I finally have some stuff in my etsy shop. Just 21 items that I've probably had pictures in here for anyway, but still. Go check it out! It's really cool just to see my stuff listed online in a shop type setting. Yay!

Ok, that's all for now. No work on Tekko yet, but I'm still hoping!

TTYL!!!

[ music | The Decemberists- Yankee Bayonette (I Will Be Home Then) ]

Oh it's been a while again, hasn't it? We briefly picked up on some internet at home, but no such luck since then. So it's back to updating from coffeeshops! Well, I have pictures from the last I Made It show in Homestead at the Owl's Club. Lots of people showed up, but Althea and I didn't really do too well. I heard the same from lots of other sellers I talked to; I guess people already had done their Christmas shopping! No matter, I always have fun just hanging out. It's worth it to me if people just admire my work, which many of them did. I did make enough to not have a loss, so that's always good!

So I have those pictures and a couple from Christmas presents I made people this year. Also, as an unofficial announcement, it looks like I will have a table at Tekkoshocon in Artist's Alley this year. I haven't heard word back from them yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm in. So if you like anime, comics, graphic novels, etc., come check it out, even for a day. It's in Greentree at the Radisson this year, and it's surprisingly well priced. It's something like $45 for the whole three days. Not bad! We went last year and had lots of fun. There are lots of talents artists there selling their creations, and I look forward to being on of them! I have some great ideas planned out for this one!!! Pictures coming soon for the first designs! Actually, one of the Christmas prezzies shown below will probably be available at the con...

In other news, Maria got a digital camera for Christmas! This is great for me because I can finally take pictures of my items without them turning out all crazy blurry! Thanks to Althea for the nice digi pictures shown below. Go check out her etsy page (linked through her name). Mine will be available shortly! It's all set up and just needs the pictures! Soon, I promise!

Ok, now on to the piccies!

I Made It! Craft Show at the Homestead Owl's Club:

My section of the table.

All the scarves together.

Two thin scarves (the tan one sold), a small fashion scarf and some hanging towels.

My two wavy scarves; a new design of mine that turned out really cool!

The black and white wavy scarf, the shell stitch scarf and the rainbow scarf. The second picture showcases the rainbow scarf.

We had a hard time getting good closeups of the shell stitch scarf (the yarn is called Banana Berry), so we took lots of them! It's one of my favorite scarves right now, and it took a long time to make! Lots of detail!

Althea's cute little price chart for her candles! I loved it!

Christmas Presents:

I made this scarf for my grandma, and she loved it! It incorporates the wavy patterns with a little more stitches and some filet crochet in the middle. She was wearing it the next time I saw her. I think the yarn was called Chocolate Cherry or something like that. It was a great color combo since I didn't know what color her coat was. Something a little girly with some neutral tones.

This is a purse I made for Maria's sister, Angela. It's black with red detailing (although the pictures warped the colors a bit). I really like the design around the top; it's the first time I tried it finish a purse with that exact stitch combo. The design, for those of you non-Naruto fans, is the sharingan symbol that is used in the anime series Naruto. Some characters have eyes that look like that:

So look forward to seeing more like that at Tekkoshocon. I'm pretty sure Angela liked the purse, too. :)

Okay, that's all for now. I will post as soon as my etsy and/or myspace pages are up and running. Until then, have a great New Year's!!!

Craft show coming up! [26 Nov 2007|02:16pm]
[ mood | creative ]
[ music | Frank Sinatra- The Good Life ]

Yay! Christmas crafts! I'm making lots of scarves and ornaments for this show, so come check it out! I feel bad for not posting here in a while, but my phone recently died, taking all of my September craft show pictures with it. So I have to catch up on old pictures and get some new ones too. Luckily, I'm not working on a theatre show any time soon, so I should have plenty of time to get all that sorted out. I'm excited about this December I Made It show b/c it's in a great location and with extended hours! Also, my friend Althea will be there selling her candles and crafts, so that will be twice as much fun!

So that's all I have for now, except my new logo picture. I designed it quickly a couple weeks ago just to have something to put places. Maybe now I'll actually get my myspace page up and running! And etsy too... Let me know what you think!

I Made It 3 Tomorrow! [28 Sep 2007|07:37pm]
[ mood | awake ]
[ music | The Police- Tea In The Sahara ]

Ok, so as usual I am le behind. Tomorrow is the next craft fair, and I haven't even put up a the poster on here. So I'm gonna do that now, hoping that some people might see it and decide to come. I've put up lots of real posters around the city though. So maybe that's done some good. And I've been way busy anyway.

So, if you hadn't guessed, I didn't get any pictures of new things yet to put in here. But I can tell you some things that you might find there tomorrow.

In addition to my usual items, this time I will be selling:
-Halloween purses
-Halloween wrist bands
-Halloween and horror movie buttons
-Halloween and horror movie magnets
-Halloween bookmarks
-a better variety of bottlecap buttons
-bottlecap magnets

The horror movie buttons are really cool, if I do say so myself. And I have many Halloween things that I will be unveiling at the October I Made It, so there's more to come!

Tomorrow's fair promises to be pretty fancy. It's in the South Side this time at the Brew House. I'm excited because, although the turn out was never really horrible, it should be very good this time. I hope to see you all there! And I promise I'll post pictures in the next couple days of the new items and the table from the fair.

OMG an update! [15 Aug 2007|06:46pm]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | The Police- Walking On The Moon ]

Well, I meant to post in here before the last sale, but I was in a rush of course and never got to do it. So now I have some pictures from the newer things I've made and the last I Made It show. The next I Made It show isn't until the end of September, and I think I'm doing the Handmade Arcade this year, but that's not for a while either. So I have lots of time to work on lots of new developments! I plan on listing items on my etsy account, building a webpage, and actually adding things to the myspace page between now and then. As always, custom orders are encouraged!

For the next shows, expect:
-winter hats and gloves
-scarves
-blankets and covers
-Steelers items
-and the big one: HALLOWEEN stuff! I can't wait!

So until then, here are those piccies! Enjoy!

My favorite new craft- bottle cap buttons. They're a big hit, and I've already sold lots of them. They're pins of your favorite beer or soft drink! Isn't that something?

Closeups of the buttons.

Harry Potter stuff! All these things were made before Book 7 came out, so don't worry about spoilers. I will warn you, however, that I am very anti-Harry and pro-evil. Also, the nature of some items will be SLASHY, and therefore not as apropriate for children as some other things... You have been warned. ;)

Some of my Harry Potter bookmarks.

Closeup of some bookmarks.

Heheheh.

Love at first sight.

*Sigh!*

Pictures from the last I Made It sale in July in Braddock:

Maria sits at our table.

Cell Monsters!

Our giant selection of Harry Potter items including the bookmarks, buttons, potholders, and Maria's house coasters.

More HP buttons.

HP house potholders. Available individually or as sets. And although you can't tell by my crappy camera phone, those colors are the real blue & bronze, black & yellow, scarlet & gold, and silver & green.

Until next time, drop me a line!!!

UPDATE!!! [03 Jun 2007|07:56pm]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | Coldplay- High Speed ]

I haven't updated in forever! Sorry! I've been working on a play, so that's taken most of my time. For anyone interested, I'm stage managing The Summer Company's production of The Admirable Crichton by J.M. Barrie (of Peter Pan fame). Should be a good show! The dates are June 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 & 23 at 8PM. We are located in Peter Mills Theatre in Rockwell Hall at Duquesne University (right off of Forbes Avenue). Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors. Come see us!

So I have the poster correction for the next I Made It show. They got a date wrong on the last one. Here it is, in all its glory:

Just a couple pictures of what I've been working on. I'm still hiding some projects until the end. One day, on a whim, I made a friendship bracelet for my friend Ang. She loved it, so I figured I'd make some more and see if other people like them too. They're pretty simple, but very cute, if I do say so myself. And for only 25 cents a bracelet, you can get enough for everyone you know!

Ang with her bracelets (at the theatre, funnily enough, where I get most of my crocheting done). She ordered a bunch off of me after I gave her the first one.

Close up of the bracelets. They come in every color combination imaginable, and, like most of my products, can be custom ordered in any size, color, and quantity!

Purses galore! In addition to my usual handles-built-in purses (like the one above, which I made for my little sister's 8th birthday), I will be selling shoulder purses with long straps and flaps over the front and "yarn bags" with handles on the outsides of the bag. People have asked me for these, so here they are! Pictures to come of those soon!

And lastly, be expecting LOTS of Harry Potter stuff from me at this sale! This could just be the last sale I attend before the new book and movie come out, so I'm making all kinds of fun items! Pictured above is a Gryffindor potholder (they also double as oven mitts and "cat cozies", see below). The potholders will be available individually or in sets of all the houses. I will also have buttons, bookmarks, patches and coasters dedicated to the Harry Potter world. Look out for those! And if you'd like a custom button, bookmark, patch or anything else to do with HP, just email! I can have it ready for you at the sale!

Ok, that's all for now! I'll be updating a few times before the show, so check back for more pictures! Thanks!

Here's the poster for the next I Made It show, this time in Braddock. It's an outdoor and indoor event, so they say, so hopefully it will draw lots more people! Be there everyone!

Byron still likes his cat cozy.

And Lenore likes it too!

She's like one of those posters whose eyes follow you wherever you go...

Maria checks her phone, safely tucked in its phone cozy, while warming up with a matching scarf!

I have a few exciting new projects coming up, set to debut at the June Sunday Market (check poster above). I probably won't post pictures of them until very close to the show, but they're really cool! Keep crafting!

Yesterday was the first I Made It event at Garfield Artworks. It was a good day, although not as profitable as the trade fair at CMU. I think it was mostly the area and the fact that it was a sunny Sunday. Next time they say it's gonna be outside maybe. Should be fun! There were lots of talented vendors there. Good times for all.

She even had rolled down stockings!

Scarves, purses, and business cards.

More information and pictures to come!

Yay, there's a craft show this weekend! Everyone come see me and all the other crafters at the I Made It show out in Garfield Artworks on Sunday, May 6th from 10AM-4PM. There will be lots of fun to be had.

I saw a flier for this show in Phantom of the Attic on Craig Street the other day:

I was way excited.

This purse will be there waiting for you:

So don't miss it!

Crafts Pictures Part One [01 May 2007|05:39pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]
[ music | Regina Spektor- Fidelity ]

I'm finally getting some actual pictures of my work on here. Yay! Hopefully I'll get some better ones and more of them soon. These pix are all from my cell phone camera, and they get kinda blurry sometimes. Thanks to Maria for modeling!

My basket of crocheting!

Oversized potholders for baking trays, large pots, etc. I make potholders in all sizes and any possible color combination. Sets also available.

Scarf season is technically over right now, but I have a couple long, thin "fashion" scarves left. Good on a windy day or just as an accent to any outfit. I also make scarves in any size, color, width and length. Custom designs, writing, and fancy stitching available on all scarves! Note: Most of my "fashion" scarves are thinner and longer than the one in this picture.

Cute little purses with built-in handles! The original pattern for this was for very long and shallow purses, but I've been making them a little bigger lately. As always, color, size and designs sewn on to the purses are completely customizable! Very soon I'll be starting to sell ones with handles, short and long!

These cell phone/i-pod cozies are a pattern of my own. They're very cute, if I do say so myself, and a hot seller. Protects phones well from breaking during falls and scratching while inside bags. I've been making the color patterns simple, but that is just the quickest way to make them. I can make them with any color. The size fits nicely to most phones (I have two sizes: one for basic phones, and one for Razors and larger i-pods). These can come with or without the flap, and the flap can come with or without a button to hold the flap down. They seem to stay down well enough without the button, but it's also nice just to have it.

I've made lots of custom buttons, and they really can be anything at all. At the moment I'm limited to the size, but I plan on getting a buttonmaker soon. I'm a big Harry Potter fan, and these ones are my favorite ones to date. The pictures did turn out rather blurry, though.

This is a reference to Vyvyan on the British TV series The Young Ones.

I make lots of silly/funny/whatever bookmarks too. Also customizable, but the ones I have already are pretty fun!

Lots more pictures to come soon! Email isntthatsomethingcrafts@gmail.com with questions or custom orders!

Just as an update, I plan on adding lots of pictures soon of all of my craft work so far. I've never really tried to take pictures of everything, so it's about time to have a photo resume of sorts.

Also, I might be participating in another craft sale soon. Details to come following confirmation.

I'm currently working on a Isn't That Something? myspace page, so look for that too! I'll post the link as soon as it's ready!

Our potholders can also double as cat cozies! Byron demonstrates.

I went to Tekkshocon, Pittsburgh's anime convention, last weekend, and I was really impressed with the handmade crafts and art there. I want to try to get a table myself for next year. I can add anime touches to a lot of my current patterns. Any ideas or suggestions for themes or patterns to use?

You're Not the Boss of Me Trade Fair [31 Mar 2007|09:13am]

[ music | Depeche Mode- Strangelove ]

Today we made our Isn't That Something? debut at CMU for the You're Not the Boss of Me conference. The Handmade Arcade worked with the event to create a trade fair, which turned out very nice. There were lots of people with many different varieties of handmade items, and some people were there just to promote their causes. We sat across the hall from meetup.com's Vegan group, and they had some yummy cupcakes! I think everyone had a great day, and the grandma crafts went over well!
